Asset Types Table

Asset types are used to broadly define the types of assets you record in Pinnacle. Each asset must have an asset type. The asset type is a general description of what the asset is. For example, your asset types might be such things as "Computer", "Chair", or "Bookcase".

The Asset Types table has several different tabs for recording information about an asset type. The tabs are: Browse, Details , Description, Attributes, Depreciation Books, Posting Accounts, Failure Codes, Feedback Codes, and Permits.

Browse Tab

The Browse tab is a list of the asset types that have been added to the table.

Details Tab

The Details tab shows the detailed information that you can record about each asset type. The fields available on the Details tab are:

Description Tab

If there are certain combinations of asset type and asset description that you frequently use, you may want to link the asset descriptions to the asset type. You can link more than one asset description to each asset type, and you can link the same asset description to different asset types.

The Descriptions tab shows the asset descriptions that have been linked to the asset type. The asset descriptions are those that have been set up in the Asset Descriptions lookup table.

The Descriptions tab displays two boxes. The box on the left hand side of the window displays all the asset descriptions that have been assigned to the asset type. The box on the right hand side displays all the asset descriptions that are available to be assigned to the asset type.

Attributes Tab

The Attributes tab allows you to decide which attributes should be available to assets of particular types. When you have defined attributes as attributes belonging to an asset type, assets automatically gain the attributes that belong to their asset type.

When selecting attributes that apply to the asset type, you can also specify whether the attribute is to be copied to work orders raised for assets of this asset type. If you change the Copy field for an attribute linked to the asset type, your modification will take effect when you choose to save your changes. It will not affect work orders that have already been raised for assets of the selected asset type.

The attributes are those that are defined in the Attributes lookup table.

The Attributes tab displays two boxes. The box on the left hand side of the window displays all the attributes that have been assigned to the asset type. The box on the right hand side displays all the attributes that are available to be assigned to the asset type.

If a dynamic attribute has been linked to an asset type, the attribute cannot be removed from the asset type once it has been used as the attribute to trigger a Planned Maintenance template for an asset of this asset type. If the attribute cannot be removed from the asset type, an icon will be displayed next to the attribute in the list of linked attributes.

When performing certain actions against an asset, such as finalising the asset or running the Periodic Depreciation function, Pinnacle posts depreciation amounts against account codes for the default book only.
