Generic Import Overview

The Pinnacle Generic Import allows you to bulk-update existing information or import new information into Pinnacle from other sources. This method of importing means that you do not have to manually enter in large amounts of information. The import function reads in the data from a predefined ASCII text file format and inserts it into the Pinnacle database. The import function ensures that the correct asset postings are made and that other database entries such as asset movement histories and asset adjustment details are also updated.

The ASCII text files that the import function requires can be created from any source, as long as they conform to the required format. Typically, these files would come from an existing software system (such as a financial system or another assets package) or from spreadsheets. The import function requires that data be saved as comma-separated value (CSV) files, and most software packages allow you to export data in this format.

Pinnacle Software can supply template spreadsheets in the required format for the CSV files.
