Generic Import Function

The Generic Import allows you to import data into the following areas of Pinnacle:

If any errors occur during the import process, they are displayed in the Errors field on the Generic Import window as they happen. The errors are also added to a log file. Once the import has finished, you can print a report of the log file that lists full details of any errors. You can save the error log to your Windows temporary directory if you turn on the setting to do this in your Pinnacle.ini file.

When you run the Generic Import, you can choose to clear the log file for the import. This means that any errors logged prior to the current import will be cleared out.

To run the Generic Import function:

  1. Run Pinnacle.

  2. Click the Import button on the Pinnacle Main Window.

    Pinnacle will display the Generic Import window.

  3. Choose the type of import you want to perform.

  4. Click the Clear Log File check box if you want to clear the log file before the import is carried out.

  5. Type in the full path and file name of the file you want to import data from

    OR

    Click the Browse button.

    If you click the Browse button, Pinnacle will display a dialog box to allow you to choose the file from which you want to import data. You can only select Comma Separated Values (CSV) files, or text file (TXT) files from this dialog box. Once you have selected a file, click the Open button, and the full path and file name will be copied to the Generic Import window.

  6. Click the Import button.

    The data import will commence, and the progress bar will progressively count to 100% to indicate the progress of the import.

    If you are importing planned maintenance templates you may be required to enter further details.
