Component types are used to define the types of components that are recorded against assets. The component type is a general description of what the component is.
Components are generally used for assets such as computer equipment, which have many internal, removable, components making up the unit. For example, your component types might be such things as "Hard Disk", "CD-ROM Drive", "Software" or "Hardware" .
You can enter the following information about a component type:
Component Type - This is the description of the component type. You must enter a description for each component type, and each description must be unique.
Rate - This is the rate for the component type. The component rate can be used to calculate the value of all the components of the same type.
NOTE: Component Types and Component Descriptions cannot be linked in the way that asset types and asset descriptions are linked.
