Displaying the Logical View for Equipment Assets

Equipment assets can have a "logical parent" as well as having an actual physical location. The logical parent is selected from the list of locations that you have defined in the property module. You choose the logical parent for the equipment asset from the Asset Module.

In most instances the physical parent (the location of the equipment asset) and the logical parent of an equipment asset will be the same. However there may be instances where you might need to record a different logical parent and physical parent.

For example, the physical parent of an air-conditioning vent might be the room in which the vent exists. But the logical parent of the vent could be the main air-conditioning unit which resides in a different physical location. In this case, the logical parent of the air-conditioning vent would be the location of the main air-conditioning unit.

Logical parents allow you to see what assets or properties are connected to an equipment asset, either by location or as a functional unit. This is very useful when you need to determine what equipment or properties could be affected by another piece of equipment breaking down or needing repairs.

To view the logical parent of an equipment asset:

  1. Open the Property Tree Browse Window

  2. Highlight the equipment asset

  3. Select Logical from the File menu

    OR

Choose Logical from the popup menu

    OR

Click the Logical button on the toolbar.

Pinnacle displays the locations that are above this equipment asset in the location hierarchy.
