Contract Attachments Tab

The Attachments tab displays all the attachments for the current contract. Attachments to a contract can be anything such as documents, pictures, audio clips, anything that you can store electronically.

There are two different types of attachments: External, and Internal. If you choose to link a file to Pinnacle as an Internal attachment, Pinnacle will take a copy of the file and store it in the Pinnacle database. If the original copy of the file is removed, Pinnacle will still keep the internal copy of the file. If you choose to link a file to Pinnacle as an External attachment, Pinnacle will only record the location of the file. If the original file is removed, Pinnacle will no longer be able to run the attachment.

The Attachments tab is divided into two sections. The top section displays the External attachments. The bottom section displays the Internal attachments. Both sections list the file name of the attachments for the asset. If you want to view or hear or run any attachment, you must first have associated the attachments' file type with some sort of external viewer program through Windows. For example, to view bitmaps, you must have associated files of type "BMP" with Windows Paintbrush, or some other bitmap viewer.

You can view the following information about each attachment:

To add an attachment:

  1. Click the attachment tab in the section where you want to add an attachment. e.g. if you want to add an Internal attachment, left click in the Internal attachments section of the attachments tab.

  2. Choose New from the File menu

    OR

Choose New from the popup menu.

  3. Pinnacle will display the Select Attachment File dialog.

  4. Use the Select Attachment File dialog to navigate to and select the file that you want to attach to the contract.

  5. Click the Open button.

If you are adding the attachment as an External attachment, Pinnacle will attach the selected file to the contract. The file name will be displayed, and you can enter a description next to the file name if you want to further describe the attachment.

If you are adding the attachment as an Internal attachment, Pinnacle will attempt to determine the MIME type for the file before attaching it. If Pinnacle is unable to determine the MIME type, the system will display a dialog where you can either select the file type from the available list, or you can manually enter the MIME file type. Click the OK button. Pinnacle will attach the selected file to the contract. The file name will be displayed, and you can enter a description next to the file name if you want to further describe the attachment.

To run an attachment:

  1. Open the Contract Window. Change to the Attachments tab.

  2. Highlight the attachment that you want to run.

  3. Double-click on the attachment.
