Using the Barcode Reader for Automatic Data Capture

During an Automatic Data Capture exercise, the PDT records the details and the actual location of assets scanned. When data is uploaded, Pinnacle adds the assets to the asset register.

To use the automatic data capture program on a barcode reader:

1. Select F1 ADC on the PDT.

2. Select F for a Fixed asset, or S for Software asset. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press ENTER to continue.

3. Scan the barcode label of the asset. The barcode must be unique, and the PDT will remember the last 50 barcodes added. Press ENTER to continue

4. Scan the asset type from the Asset Types Report. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

5. Scan the asset description from the Asset Descriptions Report. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

6. Type in the brand of the asset. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

7. Type in the model number of the asset. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

8. Type in the serial number, and press F1 to continue.

9. Scan the ownership from the Ownership Report. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

10. Scan the custodian from the Section Report. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue

11. Scan the location from the Locations Report. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

12. Type in the reference number. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press ENTER to continue.

13. Type in the condition code. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press ENTER to continue.

14. Type in the purchase price. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press ENTER to continue.

15. Type in the purchase date. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press ENTER to continue.

16. Type in the purchase order number. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press ENTER to continue.

17. Scan the supplier from the Suppliers Report. The last selection made will automatically be displayed, and if this is correct, simply press F1 to continue.

18. If you wish this asset to be recorded, press F1 to save the details into the barcode reader. If this asset has been added in error, or a mistake was made when entering the asset details, press F8 to cancel the asset.

19. Repeat Steps 2 - 18 for all remaining assets you wish to collect. To finish the ADC program, press F5 to return to the barcode reader main menu.
