Linking Assets

Pinnacle allows you link a number of assets together to form a functional unit. For example you may decide to link a computer's keyboard, system unit and monitor together.

In the linking process one asset in each group becomes the head asset. For example you may choose to make the system unit the head asset and link the keyboard and monitor to it. If you try to link an asset to another asset that is already part of a group of linked assets, Pinnacle will automatically determine the head asset in the group and link your asset directly to it. For example, if we tried to link a printer to the monitor, Pinnacle would link the printer directly to the system unit because it has been marked as the head asset.

If you are viewing a linked asset the Linked To field on the Details tab will contain the number of the head asset in the group. If you are viewing a head asset the words "Head Asset" will be displayed.

Movements and issues can only be carried out on the head asset in a group. All assets linked to the head will automatically be updated to reflect the movement or issue.

Pinnacle will not allow you to link assets to an asset marked as disposed, written off, cancelled, to trade in or traded in. To carry out certain operations on an asset, such as sending it out for repair, you may need to unlink it from the head asset. If you need to unlink a head asset, you must unlink each linked asset from it.

To link an asset to another asset:

  1. Run the Asset Module.
