When discussing the PDT, several terms will be used with which you may not be familiar. Explanations of these terms are as follows:
PDT - The Barcode Reader. PDT stands for Portable Data Terminal.
Wand - A thin rod attached to the top of some PDT's. It is used for scanning the barcode labels.
Note: Some PDT's use a laser scanner rather than a wand. The laser scanner performs the same function as the Wand but works from a distance whereas the wand must be in contact with the barcode label.
Keypad - The keyboard on the front of the PDT.
I/O Port - The Input/Output communications port.The Input/Output port is where the cable from the computer connects to the barcode reader.
